Do you know how to tip?

I'm a waitress... still. I get paid 2.33/hr + tips. Thank god I work in a nicer place now. At a past job I actually had a dickhead pay with a credit card and tell me, "My not leaving you a tip in no way reflects on your service. You did a great job." yeah. I couldn't help it... I responded with, "Sir, telling me that doesn't pay my bills. Tips pay my bills. Have a nice evening." I then ran to the back cooler for a swear fest interspersed with a few incoherent screeches of rage.

I also love the towering members of society that pull up in a lexus or bmw, pay with a $100 bill, and leave less than 10% if they leave anything. Guess we know how they bought their fancy car. >.<

General Tipping Guidelines for the masses -

  • Anything less than 12 - 15 % is costing your server money. We get taxed based off of our sales each day.
  • Anything less than 10% is just ridiculously insulting. Keep your damn change, you obviously need it more than I do.
  • If I did a good job and you were happy with everything you should try to leave approximately 20% of the bill - more if you were drinking alcoholic beverages.
  • You'd be amazed at how many places require their servers to tip out. That means the bartender takes a cut, the bus person takes a cut and the cooks take a cut - all of whom make a much better hourly wage than the server does - generally 10% of the total tips to EACH. That leaves the poor server with only 70% of what you gave her and her measly 2.33/hr. 70% of 10% or less is pretty much nothing. Think about it.

Major Overhaul

I've changed the name and the location... why? Because I haven't been a bartender in over a year but I still have plenty of salt and raving and attitude to spread around. And really, who cares. My blog is about as popular as an 18th century whore with syphilus... which is to say not at all. It works.
